Yeah, I'm a Morning Person
I feel like all morning people will understand what I mean when I say people usually think we are crazy. Society has determined that staying up late is fine. Encouraged even, but waking up early is outrageous and crazy. Even as a morning person, when I hear of someone willingly waking up at 5 am, I'm like, 'you're crazy!'
But let me tell you why I like mornings:
First, I've always been a morning person. I was born around 8:30 am. I'm convinced that the time of day you're born helps to dictate if you are a morning or night person.
When I was little, my dad would get up early for work. He would sit on the couch and listen to his scriptures. He couldn't read very well, but he would listen, and I admired his devotion and dedication to the church despite his inability to read. I like to imagine how excited he was when the text-to-voice function came out on the iPhone. How much easier it made his life. But I digress. He would read his scriptures in the morning, and I would join him. I'd curl up next to him and listen. Just spending time with him. Those were some of my favorite moments.
As I got older, I started going to seminary. I would wake up every morning to shower and get ready for early morning seminary before school. My dad would be up getting ready for work, and where he was out the door before me, I always got a hug and kiss before he was out the door. Yet again, it was my own special moment with my dad. There were times when I accidently fell asleep, and he would wake me up to make sure I got to seminary on time. There was one morning when my dad had just said goodbye and went out the door, but then I saw a big bug in my bathroom and ran out the door to his truck to ask him to kill it for me. Like the good dad he is, he came and killed it for me.
Needless to say, I have many good memories from those mornings.
When I used to drive from Orem to Murray in the early mornings before the sun was up, there was this one stretch of the freeway where I could see 3 or 4 temples. Their light stood out against the mundane city lights. It helped me love winter mornings. I couldn't see them in the summertime; the sun would be out by the time I drove up to Murray.
On a different part of that drive, I faced East and in the spring and summer, I would see the sun peek up from behind the mountains. I loved it! Seeing the first light. The rays of light came that before you could even see the sun itself.
Kayla would always say she liked staying up late cause she would have the house to herself then. That's not true anymore because the boys now stay up late with her. But me and my mornings, it's peaceful. It's serene. It's my time. I have to be quiet but I don't mind.
I would rather wake up early to study than stay up late.
My one caveat is that my favorite time of day from this apartment is sunset! I get the best views with my balcony facing west and looking over the lake.
It was fun to see the sun set change from setting on the souther part of the mountain range to the northern part as the seasons changed.
